Taken by surprise!
According to Radar, the promotion team was not given a reason for the unexpected yank after they spent countless hours strategizing their marketing campaign. The people behind-the-scenes have "no idea" why Disney decided to pull Deep Water's January 14 premiere date, an insider spilled.
On Thursday, December 9, Disney announced Deep Water was being shelved. It is unclear whether the thriller will be rescheduled for release at a later date.
The film is based on Patricia Highsmith's 1957 novel, centered around a married couple in a small town whose loveless relationship only continues due to an arrangement in which the wife can have sexual trysts as long as she doesn't leave her family. When the husband's jealousy becomes too much, he murders one of his wife's lovers.
The Radar insider explained the 49-year-old Batman actor and de Armas were expected to sit down for interviews, press junkets and walk the red carpet together — which was forcing the promotion team to strategize how to deal with Affleck's girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, if she decided to join the duo.
Affleck and the Knives Out actress' "chemistry" in Deep Water was "scorching hot," spilled a source, who added that those in charge of the PR were “thinking about the tricky situation” if Lopez and the Argo director’s ex were going to be "under one roof."
Shortly after the 33-year-old Knock Knock star and Affleck split, he rekindled his romance with his former fiancée. Meanwhile, de Armas is currently dating Tinder CEO Paul Boukadakis.
