Billy Bob Thornton looked back on his and ex-wife Angelina Jolie's whirlwind Sin City elopement, sharing rare details about their infamous romance more than 25 years later.
"Angelina and I went to Vegas. I was in Nashville and I flew back, and she said, 'Make a right, come to Vegas, I'll meet you there,'" Thornton, 71, recalled during an appearance on the "Naked Lunch" podcast.

'Ended Up in Vegas'
Billy Bob Thornton opened up about his and Angelina Jolie's May 2000 wedding.
"And I said, ‘Why?’ She said, ‘We’re gonna get married, aren’t we?’ I go, ‘Oh yeah, I guess so, right,'’’ Thornton explained.
The Bad Santa actor and Salt star, 51, famously met on the set while filming Pushing Tin in 1999 and eloped one year later. The wedding marked Thornton's fifth marriage, while Jolie had previously been married to Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999.
"So we ended up there in Vegas, and we went to one of those chapels, to go in and get married," he recounted. "I was wearing, you know, jeans and a baseball hat, like now. She was wearing a T-shirt and jeans. I remember looking at the first names on the register; it was Greg Allman and Cher."

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie were married from 2000 to 2003.
Jolie and Thornton's relationship was unfortunately short-lived, with the pair finalizing their divorce in 2003.
Despite their split, the Landman actor has called the period he spent with Jolie "one of the greatest times" of his life.
"She and I are still very, very close friends. And that was the one that ended up being a really civilized breakup," he told Rolling Stone in November 2025. "We simply split up because our lifestyles were so different."

Billy Bob Thornton said the public fascination into his relationship with Angelina Jolie was 'pretty weird.'
Thornton said he and Jolie "had a great time together," adding that the public fascination with their romance was "pretty weird" at the time.
"When we met, I was the more famous one," he told the outlet. "And then when we got together, for some reason, the people and the media are very interested in celebrity couples, that seems to be a very popular thing. So it was weird. We couldn’t go anywhere. I mean, we did, and then of course we had times when we would say things that became sound bites or whatever."

Thornton has been married to his sixth wife, Connie Angland, since 2014, telling the outlet that he finally found the "right spot to be" after his first five failed marriages.
"The other times I got married were just like, you had a little too much to drink one night and somebody said, 'We should get married.' You go, 'Yeah, okay.' I always tell people, at least I was trying," he admitted.
