Fox News' Sean Hannity Tells Rosie O’Donnell to 'Stay in Ireland' After Donald Trump Joke on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'

Rosie O’Donnell came to late night for one week only, but she only needed one Trump joke to pull Fox News into the fray.

The comedian, 64, took a turn guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! while Kimmel is away, and opened her stint by joking about her move to Ireland after Trump returned to the White House.

“I’ve been living in Ireland for the past two years because of Mango Mussolini,” O’Donnell said. “I read that Project 2025 and said, ‘Gotta get myself out of here.’”

She also looked into the camera and told Trump, “Hi… I know you are watching.”

Fox News host Sean Hannity responded by turning O’Donnell’s relocation into the punchline.

“Why is it that all these Hollywood actresses and liberals promise to leave and then they can’t stay away?” Hannity said. “Stay in Ireland, drink all you want, have a great time.”

Tomi Lahren also questioned why O’Donnell returned to the U.S. while Trump remains president.

“She supposedly left because Trump was elected and last time I checked he’s still here. So why’s she here?” Lahren said. “You’d think she would ride it out until a Democrat is back in the White House.”

“When conflict, prominence and timeliness collide, that combination drives interest,” said Jason Mudd, CEO of Axia Public Relations.

“That's what we call news judgment and it's been around long before anyone owned a smartphone. Cable news and social platforms didn't invent the appeal of a fight. They just shortened the distance between the fight and public seeing it in their feed,” he explained.

Rosie is a longtime media pro, and has two decades of publicly feuding with Trump under her belt, but Mudd said most others should consider their relative position before getting into the ring.

“Once your name collides with a known rival, a hot political topic or an old grudge, the story writes itself,” he noted. “Understand your position and vulnerabilities before you speak, not after your clip goes viral.”

O’Donnell spent her week on Live! regularly mocking Trump without always saying his name.

“A special hello to those of you watching from home and from the White House,” O’Donnell said in one monologue.

“That’s all I’m going to say about you tonight, sweetheart,” she continued. “You got to realize it’s time to hang up your wig and let Natalie tuck you in. Time to go nighty-night!”

Mudd said the incentives behind the coverage are simple.

“Audiences reward drama with attention, producers reward attention with airtime, and that repeats regardless of which side is talking,” he said. “Political feuds simply get the loudest volume available, especially when there's nothing as compelling or interesting happening."
