It may be close to two decades since exes Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck called it quits on their love affair, but it seems like they never really stopped being friends.
Before things started to heat up again between the two during a recent getaway in Montana, a source revealed that Affleck reached out to Lopez "as a friend" amid her split from former New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez.
The Latin superstar was apparently so excited to hear from her Gigli costar that they "connected right away," explained the insider, adding: "It made them both feel happy."
As OK! previously reported, the Gigli stars spent time at Affleck's home in Big Sky Montana for a weekend of R&R, and the actor has been spotted visiting Lopez's home. A source close to the "On The Floor" singer revealed, “Jennifer is still very excited about how things are going.”
Affleck and Lopez sparked reconciliation rumors when the Batman actor took a trip in a white escalade, which apparently belongs to J.Lo, headed straight to Lopez’s mansion.
“They have a great time hanging out,” a source added. “It’s been years since they caught up properly. They have lots to talk about.”

OK! was the first to exclusively report that Lopez and her ex — who called off their 2003 wedding — were in private communication as things began to fizzle out with the baseball pro.
Since their split in 2004, Affleck was married to 13 Going On 30 actress Jennifer Garner from 2005-2018. Affleck and Garner share Violet, 15, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9, together. The Gone Girl actor more recently split from Knives Out star Ana de Armas after nearly one year of dating.
For her part, J.Lo was most recently engaged to the New York Yankees star for two years before they called it quits. "We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," they said on the TODAY show.
The Hustlers actress was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd and Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Emme and Max, 13.
PEOPLE was the first to report that Lopez and Affleck connected "right away" after he reached out.
