Actress Justine Bateman Says Mothers Who Love Their Kids Outnumber 'Broken' Lindsay Clancy Supporters

Actress Justine Bateman criticized supporters of Lindsay Clancy — who is on trial for three counts of first-degree murder for the January 2023 strangulation deaths of her children — stating that mothers who genuinely love their kids far outnumber the "broken" displays of support seen for the defendant.

Amid the ongoing high-profile murder trial, Bateman, the 60-year-old former Family Ties star, posted two throwback photos on Instagram holding her own children to offer a different spin on the case.

“Considering the very disturbing and macabre case and ‘support videos’ about mothering and babies, here's some counter-programming,” she wrote.

In her caption, she directly addressed the vocal internet and courthouse groundswell surrounding Clancy, stating, "Moms who love their kids far outnumber the broken display we've seen lately."

Justine, the sister of popular actor Jason Bateman, has been married to real estate financier Mark Fluent since January 2001, and together they have two children, a son named Duke and a daughter named Gianetta.

Prosecutors argue Clancy made a calculated, premeditated decision to kill her children. Her defense team contends she was in the deep throes of severe postpartum psychosis and cannot be held criminally responsible.

The trial has drawn throngs of supporters to the courthouse and generated an explosive online debate.

While many advocates utilize the case to raise awareness for postpartum mental health crisis solutions, critics — including Justine, who usually likes to slam Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — have blasted the public display of sympathy for an admitted child killer as deeply disturbing.

Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna has offered an entirely different, albeit controversial, spin on the case, saying Clancy is innocent and that her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, committed the murders.

"He did it. Patrick did it. Patrick's the one who did it. Not Lindsay. Patrick did it,” the former Melrose Place star said in a social media video.

Rinna explained that her female therapist pointed the finger at the father, and Rinna agreed because of a belief that "women typically don't strangle" and instead rely on methods like poison.

Critics widely slammed Rinna's commentary as "ignorant" and "atrocious," blasting her for spreading unfounded conspiracy theories about a horrific family tragedy.
