Kevin Reddington Tells President Donald Trump to 'Consider a Pardon' for Lindsay Clancy After Jury Deadlocks in Tragic Child Death Case

Lindsay Clancy's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, floated the idea of President Donald Trump stepping in on behalf of his client.

On the September 8 edition of Good Morning America, Reddington discussed next steps as Clancy's murder trial ended with a hung jury. As he spoke, he addressed Trump, saying, "Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady and the person she is, what she's been through, and consider a pardon."

Clancy, 36, fatally strangled her three children to death in January of 2023, then attempted suicide. She did not dispute killing 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan during her trial, but pleaded not guilty, as her defense claimed she suffered postpartum psychosis and thus could not be held responsible for the deaths.

After intense deliberations, the jury remained deadlocked because one juror refused to join the others in voting to acquit Clancy. Reddington petitioned the judge in the case, William F. Sullivan, to have the juror removed, but the motion was denied. Sullivan declared a mistrial, and a hearing about the next steps in the trial is scheduled for September 29.

Reddington discussed the possibility of potentially working something out with Plymouth County, Mass., District Attorney Timothy Cruz, who could decide to retry Clancy.

"Hopefully we'll be able to work something out that would be acceptable to both sides," Reddington told GMA host George Stephanopoulos.

However, his plea to President Trump opens up a remarkable path to getting Clancy pardoned for the killings.

On September 5, after the mistrial was declared, Trump was asked about Clancy in the Oval Office.

"It's a horrible tragedy," he told reporters. "It's a horrible tragedy. I see what's happened, and it looks like it's a hung jury."

"I assume there's going to be another trial. It's a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can't be worse. But you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price. It's going to be [a] mental institution or jail or something," he added.

It's unknown if Trump would consider pardoning Clancy. The president has been generous with his pardons, issuing over 1,700 in his second term in office, including a blanket pardon for over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Most of his pardons have been granted to political allies and loyalists.

A Trump pardon of Clancy would likely not sit well with the president's base. Prominent Republicans including Senator Mike Lee, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and Rep. Nancy Mace all put out statements arguing that Clancy should be convicted and praising the holdout juror.

"Miscarriage of justice. The victims deserved far, far better than a kangaroo court," DeSantis wrote on X after the mistrial was declared.
