America the... beautiful? While both Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez made lasting impressions at President Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony with their stunning performances, it was their fashion choices that had everyone talking.

Lopez stunned in a hue from the American flag: white. Her silk ruffled high-neck blouse, sequined wide-leg pants, long tweed coat and accessories were all Chanel — the shirt and pants from Fall 2019 ready-to-wear collection and the gorgeous coat from Fall 2020.
Gaga wore a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture look designed by Daniel Roseberry. The ensemble consisted of a navy, cashmere fitted jacket and skirt in washed red silk with an over-the-top gilded dove of peace brooch. She completed the stunning outfit with Cornelia James leather gloves.
Although the two ladies looked incredible, were they sending a hidden message? Lopez and Gaga decided to wear Chanel and Schiaparelli, respectively, so we fashion aficionados would understand the subtext of their choosing to wear those famous rivals! OK! takes a look at the fierce contention between fashion icons Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli.
Both Chanel and Schiaparelli were strong independent women who changed the course of fashion forever, but the two ladies reportedly hated one another, according to Harper's Bazaar. It is claimed that Chanel went as far as to set Schiaparelli on fire after she “accidentally” pushed her into a candle arrangement during a party and reveled in her nemesis being squirted with soda water to extinguish the flame. Chanel even refused to recognize Schiaparelli as a designer and instead shaded her by calling her an “Italian artist who makes clothes.”

Adding fuel to the fire, Lopez chose to wear Chanel twice during her groundbreaking trip to D.C. The "Let's Get Loud" singer posted a photo of herself standing outside the Capitol on Wednesday morning moments before she was set to perform. The 51-year-old looked stunning in a black-and-white houndstooth coat and matching pants set from Chanel’s Fall 2019 collection. She paired the chic look with a white ruffled button-up shirt accented with pearl earrings.

The superstar also paused to snap a selfie with members of the National Guard who were there to protect the incoming administration after the violent riots that rocked D.C. on January 6. “What an honor to spend a few moments with these brave men and women,” she wrote. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. I honor you today and everyday.❤️🤍💙 #inauguration2021.”
