Lindsay Clancy-Obsessed Mom Accused of Killing Toddler Retains Casey Anthony’s Former Lawyer

An Illinois mother who prosecutors allege was highly invested in the high-profile Lindsay Clancy murder trial has retained Andrea Lyon, the prominent defense attorney known for her previous work representing Casey Anthony.

Corie Walsh, 40, of Frankfort, Ill., was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly hanging her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, on September 1 before attempting to take her own life.

According to the filing, Walsh told officers she attempted to kill her child because he was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ."

A neighbor told police she found Walsh "actively harming herself" and that she had "taken a knife" from the mother and tossed it into the sink. The neighbor also alleged that Walsh said "she was trying to kill herself."

Court documents show Walsh texted friends about the Clancy case just hours before the incident.

"The defendant had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends up until 12:30 PM on September 1, 2026, three and a half hours before the scene was discovered," a court document said.

The Clancy trial, which centered on severe postpartum mental illness, ended in a mistrial on September 4.

Lyon, a veteran capital defense lawyer dubbed the "Angel of Death Row," issued a statement asserting that Walsh was suffering from a "psychotic episode at the time this happened."

Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, alleged the same of his client, who was charged with three counts of first-degree murder. The charges stem from the January 24, 2023, strangulation deaths of her three young children. Following the murders, she attempted suicide by jumping from a second-floor window, which left her paralyzed.

"This is a tragedy for the Walsh family, all of whom are mourning the loss of this child," Lyon's statement said. "It is also a tragedy in that Corie herself was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time this happened. It is our hope that through a thorough presentation and investigation of the facts, that all of us will come to see this heartbreak for what it is."

Walsh was treated at a hospital, where she remained as of Thursday, September 3. Her next court date was slated for Tuesday, September 8, according to detention center data.

Lyon famously helped secure an acquittal for Anthony in her 2011 murder trial.

Although she was no longer on the team when Anthony was acquitted of murdering her young daughter in July 2011, Lyon publicly praised the jury for focusing on the evidence rather than giving in to what she described as a "mob mentality.”

Walsh remains in custody as law enforcement and prosecutors continue their investigation.
