Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Donald Trump's Call for Americans to 'Work More' Targets 'Tax Paying Slaves' to Fund Government Spending

Former MAGA congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene ripped President Donald Trump for complaining about America having "too many non-working holidays."

In a fiery X post made on September 3, the 52-year-old former Trump ally tore at what she dubbed "our multibillionaire President’s Labor Day message" to "American tax paying slaves" — while reminding readers of Trump's myriad economic failures.

Trump's Truth Social post claims that America's "non-working holidays" are costing the country "BILLIONS OF DOLLARS." It also claims that workers don't want so many occasional days off, and that, if the scourge of non-working holidays continues unchecked, "we'll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year."

The post was made on Juneteenth 2025. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. after the Civil War, and was made a federal holiday in 2021 under President Joe Biden.

A screenshot of the year-old post began spreading on X after Trump's Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator, Dr. Mehmet Oz, said in the Oval Office on August 31 that if he could raise the average American age of retirement one year, it would be worth an extra $1T to the country's GDP. Oz's comment led social media users to recall Trump's, suggesting a pattern of the administration trying to squeeze more labor out of the average American worker.

Greene expressed her vehement disagreement with Trump's post, suggesting that the president wanted more American labor to pay for the various problems his administration faces.

She said that Trump was telling the country's "tax paying slaves" that they "need to work more to fund his historically high government spending, never ending Iran War, and import his foreign mystery meat, while he goes golfing at one of his many private golf courses with his best buddies in the Epstein class."

Furthermore, she argued that Trump was ignoring the realities of Americans struggling to make ends meet.

"In the real world, college graduates can’t find a job, in most families both parents work their tails off, many Americans work 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet, and the national price of gas is still above $4/gallon," she wrote. "It’s not the American people who need to change their ways."

Her comments align strongly with Democratic messaging ahead of the 2026 midterms.

After Democrats hammered the Trump administration for the high cost-of-living en route to off-year electoral blowouts in 2025, the party has continued to focus on the economy heading into 2026.

Trump has been consistently dismissive of such concerns, claiming that Democrats "invented" concerns on "affordability," while urging Americans to bear high gas prices and high prices caused by his tariffs. The ultimate reward for doing so, he's urged, is a "golden age" that will materialize eventually.

The former congresswoman went from diehard Trump ally to vocal critic in a matter of months last year.

The pair had a falling out after Greene supported the Epstein Files Transparency Act in September 2025. Greene resigned from Congress in January, and since then, has hammered Trump for what she views as his betrayal of his "America First" promises.

She has consistently criticized Trump for his focus on foreign policy, particularly his allegiance with Israel, and what she views as his abandonment of working-class Americans.

Trump has dismissed Greene with insults like "Marjorie Traitor Brown," on the basis that "green" grass turns brown under stress.
