Megyn Kelly Says Lindsay Clancy's Case Is 'Complicated' Then Likens Her to Jeffrey Dahmer

Megyn Kelly is weighing in on the controversial insanity defense at the center of Lindsay Clancy's murder trial.

During Wednesday's episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly called the case "complicated" before making a striking comparison between Clancy and convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Clancy, 36, has pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of insanity, with her defense arguing that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis when she killed her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and eight-month-old Callan, at the family's home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023.

The podcaster, however, said she isn't persuaded.

"Jeffrey Dahmer murdered many people, young boys and men, and viewer warning, cannibalized them," she said, describing how Dahmer wanted to "zombify" his victims so they could remain with him forever.

"If anybody would ever meet the definition of legally insane, it should be somebody like a Jeffrey Dahmer," she continued.

Yet, she noted, Dahmer's insanity defense was rejected by a jury.

"I'm sorry, but Lindsay Clancy is far closer to sane than Jeffrey Dahmer was, but she's trying the same defense," she said.

Still, the former Fox News host acknowledged that Clancy's mental health struggles make the case especially difficult to talk about.

"I completely give them this point that she was jumping up and down looking for help," she said, referring to Clancy's repeated attempts to seek treatment.

She also stressed that mental illness itself is not something a person chooses.

"Mental illness is really not the fault of anybody to whom it happens," Kelly said, adding, "It can be a chemical thing, it can be a disease thing, and it can be inherited or hereditary, genetic in some way."

"Even if you accept it, that doesn't necessarily mean we are in a place where she is unable to tell right from wrong, or have logical, reasoned thinking, or plan with malice aforethought the death of her children," she continued.

Prosecutors have pointed to what they describe as evidence of planning, while Clancy's defense has challenged the police investigation and argued that medications and her deteriorating mental state played a significant role, per BBC.

For the 55-year-old, however, the evidence of what she called "ordered behavior and thinking" is difficult to overlook.

"This is not somebody who's clearly out of her mind," she said.

As the trial moves toward a verdict, Kelly offered her prediction, saying, "Lindsay Clancy is going to be found not guilty by reason of disease or mental defect? I don't think so."
