New REELZFest Music Documentary Explores Metallica's Rise To Global Superstardom
This year’s REELZFest Rock Doc festival spotlights heavy metal heroes, Metallica.
With a combined fortune of 900 million dollars and longevity spanning four decades, Metallica is one of the biggest selling heavy metal bands in history.
Their 1991 multi-platinum album Metallica, also known as The Black Album for its packaging, changed the course of heavy metal and rocketed the quartet from the Bay Area of California to global superstardom with hits like “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters.”
At the time it was recorded, the album’s songs were written mainly by frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. The duo frequently composed together at Ulrich's home in Berkely, CA.
But it hasn’t always been an easy road. Struggles with aggression, jealousy, alcohol abuse and the death of a bassist and founding band member Cliff Burton, in 1986, plunged the band in and out of darkness.
