Mitch McConnell Released From Rehab Nearly 2 Months After Falling Unconscious in Washington, D.C., Home

Mitch McConnell, senior United States senator from Kentucky, has been released from rehab nearly two months after falling unconscious in his Washington, D.C., home.

The Senator made an announcement about his health update in a statement on Thursday, August 6, on behalf of himself and wife Elaine Chao.

"Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home. Elaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff," McConnell said.

He noted, "On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business."

The Republican politician and attorney has held his Senate seat since 1985, making him the longest-serving senator in Kentucky history.

McConnell's discharge from rehab follows weeks of swirling health rumors and widespread concern after emergency audio dispatch revealed he was found "unconscious" inside of his Washington, D.C., home and rushed to the hospital on Sunday, June 14.

While invested social media users remained concerned for McConnell's well-being following news of his hospitalization, worries drastically amplified after Trump confidante Laura Loomer alarmingly claimed via X that the former Senate Majority Leader was in life-threatening condition and unlikely to recover.

"High level source close to the White House tells me, 'Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead. He’s not coming back,'" the pro-MAGA commentator alleged on Monday, July 6.

Loomer's shocking claim was made less than one month after emergency responders were called to McConnell's home and found the politician "unconscious."

Reports initially described the situation as a cardiac emergency, with paramedics performing CPR and rushing McConnell to a nearby hospital.

McConnell later clarified that he became "briefly unconscious" after a fall in his home and was later diagnosed with a bout of pneumonia.

"You all know how folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older," a written statement from his office read on July 12. "Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct – I can't help it."

"Surviving childhood polio meant spending my entire life with mobility challenges. They haven’t exactly gotten easier to manage with age. And last month, I took a fall which landed me in the hospital," continued. "My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia."
