Nelly and Shantel Jackson are officially broken up, and apparently have been for a long time.
The shocking reveal happened via Instagram, when Jackson confirmed to a curious fan that she and the "Hot In Here" singer are no longer together.
One follower said that she looked pregnant. "Definitely not ... lol" Jackson commented back, which prompted another follower to ask, "R u [and] Nelly still together? I love seeing u guys together," to which she replied, "No we’re not….. Just friends."
The surprising bombshell took off with many fans assuming that the split had just happened recently, but the "Ride Wit Me" artist was quick to correct the media.
Jackson, 37, and Nelly, 46, first got together in 2014, and according to the rapper they were together until 2019 when they made the decision to part ways.
When The Shade Room reported that the couple had broken up after 7 years, Nelly commented on the Instagram post, saying "Well actually just 5 years ended 2019 haven’t been together for the past 2…!!! 🙏🏽 ok now y’all know..!! #FACTS"
This comes as a shock to fans that followed the celebrity couple for years. Nelly even spoke to Entertainment Tonight in October of 2020 saying that "they understand each other" and part of the reason why they work well together is that they have "so much in common."
"She grew up in the inner city, she knows what it's like to go through certain things in life when you grow up in the inner city [...] She's very driven, very passionate about the things she does and she doesn't accept anything but wanting to be better. And that's what I love. That's exactly what I love."
He also mentioned previously that they were "working towards" marriage, but it seems that at least for now, that's no longer in the cards.
Jackson is an occasional actress and has shown up in several reality series including The Platinum Life, Nellyville, and Ridiculousness. It is unknown if she or Nelly are currently dating anyone else.
