Nicole Richie Sets Herself On Fire Blowing Out Birthday Candles
Nicole Richie certainly marked turning 40 years old with a bang.
The Simple Life alum shocked fans when she shared a video taken from what appeared to be her birthday celebrations on Instagram. In the clip, the blonde beauty tried to blow out candles on her birthday cake when her hair caught fire — twice.
Thankfully, friends were there to help pat out the flames. It's unclear if Richie was injured, but she seemed to be in good spirits when she captioned the post, "Well… so far 40 is 🔥."
Fans and friends took to the comments to share their thoughts on the blunder.
"That's hot," her husband, Joel Madden, joked, making a reference to Simple Life costar Paris Hilton's catchphrase.
"Happy Birthday Sis love you and thankful for you always ❤️🎉 stay lit 🔥," her brother-in-law Benji Madden added.
"Happy birthday Cuz , are you ok Cuz. ? May reign on is all ❤️🎂❤️🎂❤️🎂," Naomi Campbell wrote.

"Happy birthday, baby! Welcome to your 40’s, where the party really gets started. Xx," Chelsea Handler commented.
Richie seems to be doing well these days. An OK! insider previously spilled that her "favorite thing to do is to hang out at home with Joel, the kids and their animals."
"Nicole says she almost didn't make it — and that it's a miracle she's still alive," the insider said of Richie's history with addiction. "She calls herself a survivor. She went to hell and back and says she had to fight for her life with every ounce of strength she had."
"Nicole loves being a mom and would welcome the chance to have one more child," the insider spilled. "She has more energy now than ever, and she wants to build on the amazing life she already has. Giving her kids a little brother or sister would be the cherry on top."
Richie and Madden tied the knot in 2010 and share children Harlow, 13, and Sparrow, 12.
