Turncoat 'Lapdog': Omid Scobie Criticizes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Bid to Show He Has 'No Friendship' With Royals
Omid Scobie once received input from Meghan Markle through an intermediary when writing one of his books, but still claims there is "no friendship" between himself, the Duchess and Prince Harry. In fact, while promoting his new Sussex book, Endgame, the author has gone so far as to criticize the royal rebels for not making the "wisest decisions" since "Megxit" in 2020.
"No matter how many times I explain that I’m not her friend... there’s always going to be a million people still calling me 'Meg's pal.' The reality is that there’s no friendship there," Scobie pleaded to an outlet.
While being interviewed about the claims in the tome, the journalist doubled down when pressed on if certain personal moments between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex came directly from the couple. "There are enough people around them and in their orbit who know the ins and outs of things. If there’s ever been a private encounter with Meghan, I’ve spoken about it," Scobie said.
In a November 16 post on X, the writer stated: "And let’s get this nonsense out the way — #ENDGAME is about the current state of the British royal family. It’s not 'Harry and Meghan’s book,' I'm not 'Meg's pal,' the Sussexes have nothing to do with it, their story is a small part of a much bigger one you can read in 12 days."
Despite those claims, the co-author of 2020's Finding Freedom took aim at what he finds to be a flaw in Harry and Meghan's character profiles — their impatience. He said that the pair "ran hot" when trying to discuss negotiations about their exit from the monarchy in early 2020 at the infamous "Sandringham Summit" with the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Scobie also has an issue with the Montecito twosome's repeated use of private flights while speaking out against climate change. When detailing a section that explored the Duke of Sussex taking four private jet flights in 11 days in 2019, he wrote: "It was not one of Harry’s wisest decisions from a public image standpoint."

Both the writer and Meghan Markle's credibility was called into question in 2021 when the former actress initially told a British court that she had nothing to do with Finding Freedom, only to then suddenly remember she allowed her aides to speak with Scobie and feed him info about her that she wanted in print. Sussex sources inauthentically held firm before the hearing that they and the ex-working royal pair had nothing to do with the book — a claim they are making once again with Endgame.
The Telegraph reported on Scobie's remarks.
