He's a long way from Riverdale!
When KJ Apa isn't in character as Archie Andrews on the hit teen drama (or filming it in Vancouver, Canada) the New Zealand native is kicking back at his California crib.
The actor, 24, purchased the Hollywood Hills property for $2.9 million about two years ago — though, in an interesting twist, there’s a chance it could’ve actually ended up with his costar Cole Sprouse.
Unbeknownst to each other, the pair put in offers the very same day. “We couldn’t believe it,” Apa recalled of them comparing photos of the 3,581-square-foot spread in a nearby coffee shop. “And then he was like, "Take it, bro. Take it.’ Cole’s a legend.”
These days, Apa shares the three-bed, three-bath abode with his girlfriend, 28-year-old French model Clara Berry, and their 4-month-old son, Sasha. (We assume Sprouse, 29, is a frequent visitor, having recently bought his own $2.5 million modernist digs nearby.)
The white stucco pad was built in 1966, though it's been significantly updated since then, with the interiors boasting hardwood floors, custom cabinetry and high-end kitchen appliances. Still, the home retains plenty of old-world charm thanks to Spanish tile, vintage light fixtures and Apa and Berry’s own retro aesthetic (think: bold patterns, funky textures and a 1960s-style color scheme).
Like many SoCal estates, the spot seamlessly blends indoor- outdoor living thanks to wood-framed doors that swing open to a massive second-floor terrace, tiled courtyard and swimming pool.
The dwelling provides a tranquil retreat for the globe-trotting couple — who frequently travel between Vancouver and Europe for work commitments — and a relaxing home base to raise their little boy. “I definitely was scared,” Apa said of his apprehensions about fatherhood. “But as soon as I saw him and I saw [Clara] do what she did, everything kind of fell into place. All my questions were answered.” Happy nesting!
