Roseanne Barr's Son Blasts Her 'Roseanne' Costars, Says They 'Conspired' to Take the Show From Her

Roseanne Barr’s son is coming to his mother’s defense amid the long-running controversy surrounding the cancelation of Roseanne.

On Wednesday, August 12, Jake Pentland called out Michael Fishman after the former child star shared a lengthy Instagram video addressing the end of the ABC sitcom. Fishman, who played Barr’s son DJ Conner on the hit series, said the show was “rightfully canceled.”

Pentland, however, strongly disagrees with that assessment.

He told TMZ that the cast was “selling out the woman who launched their careers.”

His comments come years after ABC pulled the plug on the Roseanne revival following a controversial 2018 tweet by Barr about Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to Barack Obama.

"I had no idea about Jarrett's African-American ancestry when suggesting that the political aide looked like the 'Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes had a baby,'" Barr wrote at the time.

Barr later acknowledged the backlash surrounding her post while explaining her intentions. She doubled down that she never meant it the way people took it.

Pentland acknowledged that “real harm was done” but argued that his mother ultimately paid the highest price.

According to Pentland, Barr's costars "conspired to take Roseanne's show from her after taking her social media post out of context.”

“They never asked Roseanne what she meant and prevented her from publicly defending herself,” Pentland added.

Fishman recently addressed the controversy after coming across a social media comment, which read, “The reboot got canceled because Roseanne made the usual jokes a comedian makes, but America decided to backstab Roseanne."

“At the time, the LGBTQ and woke c--- took over and started destroying anything it could. Roseanne was one of the people that all of a sudden got flak for remaining to be an edgy comedian,” it continued. “Funny thing is even if she was racist, she had already said more egregious jokes and nobody batted an eye before.”

Rather than ignore the post, Fishman explained why he decided to respond after years of staying quiet.

“I get this every day. I get these kinds of ignorant and inaccurate comments daily,” he began, appearing visibly frustrated. “Mostly, I try to ignore them.

He added, "For over eight years, I’ve been dealing with it quietly. Usually, I don’t respond. After eight years, turning the other cheek really isn’t helping."

Fishman also rejected the idea that political arguments should be used to rewrite what happened to the sitcom.

“So, I guess the world failed to learn the lesson. So I’m going to point out. We are perpetuating a lie, and people are using a political smokescreen to justify the indefensible,” he said.

Despite his criticism of the claims surrounding the show's cancelation, Fishman continued to express affection for the actress while acknowledging the seriousness of her actions.

“Good people make mistakes,” he said of Barr in his Instagram video. “And I love the one who made this mistake. I always will. I’ll always have compassion and love, and I’ve shown it continuously, and she helped the world understand that good people can make mistakes.”
