Ruby Rose is opening up about the difficult relationship Hayden Panettiere had with her mother, Lesley Vogel, following the actress’ sudden death.
On Wednesday, August 19, Rose took to Threads to criticize Vogel’s comments about her late daughter while also sharing screenshots of an alleged conversation between herself and Panettiere.

Ruby Rose shared alleged private messages with Hayden Panettiere while discussing the actress’ complicated relationship with her mother.
“… Always struggle to separate from their parents. It’s an unnatural position to be placed in,” Rose allegedly sent Panettiere. “They did not act or behave like mothers, so we are wounded from them, but the idea of a mother is still so powerful to us.”
Although Rose did not reveal when the exchange took place or provide additional context, Panettiere appeared to respond to her friend’s message.
“All of that lands,” she allegedly wrote.
‘I Was Sobbing Over Her Cruelty’

Hayden Panettiere appeared to describe being deeply hurt by her mother’s actions, saying she was still able to ‘cause her pain at 36.’
Panettiere then appeared to open up about how deeply her relationship with her mother affected her.
“I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, ‘My god, I’m 36 and she can still cause this kind of pain,’” the text read. “I’m her only child left and this is how she wants to handle the situation?!”
Panettiere died at 36 on Sunday, August 16, after she was found unresponsive inside an apartment in South Carolina.

Panettiere’s Mother Speaks Out

Lesley Vogel spoke publicly about her daughter after Hayden Panettiere’s death, saying she wished the actress had ‘stayed true to herself.’
Following her daughter’s death, Vogel spoke with NBC about Panettiere’s life and struggles.
“I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself and I think Hayden sadly lost her way and I wish it were different. I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes. I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle and it's a very challenging industry and it's not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.”
Vogel previously worked as Panettiere’s manager before the actress decided to end their professional relationship while starring on Heroes.
During a May 11 appearance on the “Jay Shetty Podcast,” Panettiere recalled the moment she told her mother she wanted to separate their personal and professional relationships.
“She came into my trailer during lunch when we were filming Heroes, and I said to her, 'I don't want us to work together anymore; I just want you to be my mom,'” she shared.
According to Panettiere, Vogel responded with three words: “You owe me.”
Their Relationship Became Strained

Hayden Panettiere previously revealed that she ended Lesley Vogel’s role as her manager while they were working together on ‘Heroes.’
Panettiere said she was stunned by her mother’s response because she “was not expecting” such a strong reaction.
“And that's all she said, and she walked out. And part of me was like, 'Oh, I'm relieved that it was short, like, rip the Band-Aid off.' But then it was like this dark looming cloud over my head going, 'What does she mean by I owe her? What form of payment is she expecting?'” she wondered.
The starlet later said she came to believe her mother’s relationship with her was tied to finances.
Panettiere explained that after their professional ties ended, she had wished they could simply focus on being mother and daughter.
“Once the business aspect was removed, I was hoping that there [would] be no reason for her to be anything other than my than my mom,” she continued. “And the fact that it seemed like she didn't want to — didn't care to — have a relationship with me was a tough pill to swallow.”
