Sarah Michelle Gellar celebrated her marriage anniversary with Freddie Prinze Jr. with a six-photo carousel.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is celebrating 24 years of marriage to Freddie Prinze Jr. with a nostalgic look back at their early days together.
"Can you imagine telling these kids where they would be 24 years later (well tech 26… but 24 married) #happyanniversary," Gellar wrote on Instagram on September 1.
The photos offered a nostalgic look at the couple they were before more than two decades of marriage, children and careers.
Their Anniversary Has a Sneaky Little Problem
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have been married for 24 years.
Gellar has previously joked about how the anniversary date can sneak up on the couple.
"Our running joke is that every year we have to look up when our anniversary is. Thankfully, People always reminds us!" Gellar said in a March interview with People.
They Have Kept Their Marriage Out of the Spotlight
The couple prefers to keep their marriage private.
Despite building careers in Hollywood, Gellar and Prinze have generally kept their family life private.
"I always say I'm two people: I'm Sarah Michelle Gellar and I'm Sarah Prinze," Gellar said during her conversation with People. "They're different people."
She explained that life with her husband is “a quieter life and a private life,” something she appreciates that their fans have respected.
That privacy has given the couple room to maintain a family life away from the constant attention surrounding their careers.

Respect Has Remained Part of Their Marriage
Respect is a big part of their marriage.
The couple has also been candid about the effort behind keeping their marriage alive for more than two decades.
"You have to be willing to work," Gellar told People. "And that goes for relationships, friendships, anything. You have to put the work in. You have to carve out the time."
Prinze offered his own perspective during a July 2025 interview with Variety.
"I'm not perfect. She's not perfect. We p--- each other off, but we respect one another," he said. "We were friends first. Maybe that's the secret?"
A Missed Flight Led to Their Forever After
The couple shares two teenagers.
Gellar and Prinze Jr. first met while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, but their relationship did not begin on set.
A mutual friend missed a flight and could not make a planned dinner, leaving the two actors to go ahead without her. Gellar later recalled how that changed everything.
"That friend missed her flight, but we decided to still meet and catch up," Gellar wrote on Instagram in January 2020, as reported by TODAY. "Now 20 years together, 17 plus married and two kids, we still go to that restaurant for dinner."
The couple married in Mexico on September 1, 2002, and later welcomed their daughter, Charlotte, 16, and son, Rocky, 13.
