Seth Meyers mocked Donald Trump’s defense of higher gas prices on his podcast.

Seth Meyers may be away from Late Night, but "A Closer Look" is still clocking in.
On the August 24 episode of “A Closer Look: Out of Office,” Meyers and supervising writer-producer Sal Gentile tackled President Donald Trump’s comments on gas prices before turning to Darline Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who is running to keep his South Carolina Senate seat.
The Gas Price Line
Seth Meyers poked fun at Donald Trump’s refusal to apologize for the rising gasoline costs.
At a recent Long Island rally, Trump defended higher gas prices by linking them to the U.S. war with Iran.
“For you to pay a tiny little bit more for your gasoline, just remember, you're doing it so that a very evil country cannot have a [nuclear weapon],” Trump said. “So remember that when you have to pay a little bit more. You're at $4. It’s OK. I'll never apologize. I did the right thing.”
Gentile said his favorite part was the quick reassurance inside Trump’s quote.
“A lot of people are focused on that: ‘I'll never apologize. I did the right thing.’ My favorite part is, ‘It's OK,’” Gentile said.
“‘It's OK, you guys. I know you're upset, but it's OK,’” Meyers joked. “It's very weird for a guy who's never apologized about anything to say, ‘I'll never apologize’ for that. You don't apologize for anything.”
The Graham Succession Joke
Seth Meyers joked about Darline Graham’s bid to keep her late brother’s Senate seat.
Meyers then shifted to Darline Graham, who was appointed to serve out the remainder of her brother’s term at Trump’s urging and is now facing a Republican runoff to keep the seat.
“I want to address something real quick, which is one time my son said to me, ‘Dad, when you die, do I get your show?’” Meyers said. “Now, I love my son.”
He compared that logic to Graham’s Senate run.
“No judgment in anyone who thinks that when a loved one dies, you just get to take their place,” Meyers joked. “That’s what Darline Graham, Lindsey Graham’s sister — she has the same sort of worldview as Ashe.”

The Answer That Followed Her
He highlighted Darline Graham’s viral response about her limited national security knowledge.
Meyers also played Graham’s viral debate answer, in which she was asked whether Taiwan and the South China Sea are national security issues for the U.S.
“I’m just going to be honest here … I’m not that informed on national security,” Graham said. “But I do support the military.”
The late-night host continued his political commentary on ‘A Closer Look: Out of Office.’
Meyers said foreign policy was the one subject viewers could reliably associate with her late brother.
“The one thing he talked about every week,” Meyers said. “That was his thing.”
