Now that Shaun White has stepped away from competitive snowboarding, a source tells OK! the legendary athlete and his girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, are ready to focus on their future as a couple.
“They have been together for two years, their relationship is super solid and they want to take it to the next level,” spills the source.
White, 35, recently announced he was riding into retirement, paving the way for him to concentrate on his romance with the Vampire Diaries alum, 33. “Training at the Olympic level takes such a huge time commitment, and as much as he loves it, he’s ready for a new chapter in life,” explains the source, pointing out that White revealed he’d “love to be a dad” last month.
“Shaun is certain that Nina is the one. He wants to marry her,” says a source of the snowboarder, who recently gushed that fatherhood “seems so exciting.”
“His brother and sister both have kids now, he knows it’s something he wants to do too, and Nina’s on the same page.”
The duo, however, isn’t going to rush things. “The plan is to tie the knot, maybe later this year, and enjoy married life for a while before having a baby,” the source adds. “They want to savor every step of the way.”
The happy couple has been going strong since 2019 — after meeting at a Tony Robbins event where they were both speaking — with White recently telling People that the actress has been there for him while he goes into the next phase of his life.
"Nina's just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me," the recently retired athlete explained to the outlet.
"Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special," White noted of his partner and her never ending support.
