Taylor Swift's lover, Joe Alwyn, made a rare comment about his relationship with the singing sensation, despite the pair normally keeping the details of their romance under wraps.
In a new interview with Elle UK, the British actor, 31, explained he doesn't necessarily "want to be guarded and private" when it comes to his relationship with Swift, 32, but noted: "It's more a response to something else."
The "Blank Space" singer — who has long been the subject of media scrutiny over her publicized relationships in the past — opted for more privacy when it came to her romance with Alwyn.
The enchanted couple first began dating in 2016 and have kept their relationship on the down-low ever since.
"We live in a culture that is so increasingly intrusive," he pointed out in the interview published Wednesday, April 13. "The more you give — and frankly, even if you don't give it — something will be taken."

Both of the lovebirds have previously opened up about their decision to remain tight-lipped regarding their relationship, with the Grammy winner once admitting she was putting too much value on what other people thought about her love life. (Swift has dated major celebs including John Mayer, Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and more.)
"Whether it was the general internet consensus of who would be right for me, or who they thought was 'couple goals' based on a picture I posted on Instagram, that stuff isn't real," the blonde beauty previously explained, as OK! learned. "For an approval seeker like me, it was an important lesson for me to learn to have my OWN value system of what I actually want."
The Boy Erased actor also told British Vogue back in 2018: "I'm aware people want to know about that side of things. I think we have been successfully very private, and that has now sunk in for people. But I really prefer to talk about work."
The flames have also been sparking engagement rumors lately, with an insider previously spilling that things between the two were getting "more serious."
Swift further fueled the rumors earlier this year after flying to St. Ives for a romantic getaway with Alwyn, although in their true style, neither of the stars have said a peep about the engagement speculation.
