Travis Barker Braves First Flight Since Horrific 2008 Plane Crash That Changed His Life
Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker is taking some big steps towards healing.
The musician has reportedly not been on an airplane since he was involved in a horrific crash in 2008 that left him in need of 26 future surgeries, 65% of his body burned, and both his assistant and his security guard dead.
The rocker has been open about his past struggles with drug addiction, and accredits the tragic accident for helping to turn his life around. In an interview with Men's Health, the drummer claimed when people ask him if he went to rehab to overcome his battle with addiction, the surprising answer is no.
"'No, I was in a plane crash.' That was my rehab," Barker admitted candidly. "Lose three of your friends and almost die? That was my wake-up call. If I wasn’t in a crash, I would have probably never quit."
Despite the "wake up call", the crash also affected his mental health severely.

Along with his physical injuries, the crash left him with PTSD and a strong aversion to flying.
As OK! previously reported, he had a difficult time living his regular life after the incident, even when it came to things like taking a walk outside. "I was dark," he said. "I couldn’t walk down the street. If I saw a plane [in the sky], I was determined it was going to crash, and I just didn’t want to see it."
But it appears the rock star is facing his fears with the help of girlfriend — and rumored fiancée — Kourtney Kardashian.
TMZ was the first to snag photos of the reality star couple as they boarded Kylie Jenner’s private jet to fly out for a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on Saturday, August 14.
Kris Jenner and her boyfriend of 6 years, Corey Gamble, are also reported to have been on the flight with the high profile lovebirds.
According to photos, the plane left from Los Angeles, Cali. and landed safely in Mexico with no major issues to report.
