One day after the horrific stabbing incident, Rivera’s sister, Lezlye, took to social media to explain her brother’s deteriorating mental state and offer up support for the MMA fighter. “This past weekend my brother hasn’t been acting like himself and completely just losing interest in his training, which we all know is what he loves to do,” she wrote on Facebook.

The sister explained that she was concerned for Rivera and that’s what prompted her to jump on a plane and immediately fly to Florida to “check up on him.” Sadly, by the time she got there, she said his “mental stage was worse than we could of imagined and before we could help him he completely broke.”

Rivera, 31, initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement and confessed to the horrific incident. “I killed my sisters,” he said. The athlete told the authorities that he entered his sisters’ room while they were sleeping and used a “brass knuckle knife” to hurt them in the alleged incident. Rivera told the police that “it was his purpose” to harm the women, as he was told to do so by a “higher power.”
