Things have looked quite rosy for Ariana and Pete as they basked in their short whirlwind relationship that led to a rapid engagement over the summer. But over the last few short weeks, there have been multiple signs that the couple was skidding to a halt. The death of Ariana’s ex Mac Miller last month marked a major turning point in their relationship as she mourned the loss of her “dearest friend.”
Since then, she decided not to attend the Primetime Emmys, where Pete’s show SNL was honored.
And she even pulled out from performing on the show’s season premiere, in which Pete hilariously and adorably poked fun at their relationship multiple times, “for emotional reasons.”
Though he seemed to be on cloud nine about their relationship, Ariana publicly shared in a cryptic Twitter thread that she was going through a tough time at the moment. “Can I pls have one OK day. just one. Pls. I’m so tired pls” she tweeted shortly after the episode aired. She added in a since-deleted tweet: “Thank you for loving me so much. I do not deserve it. I love you.”
That was right after she indefinitely postponed her eagerly anticipated Sweetener tour.
Around that time, Pete had also announced that he had fallen off the wagon and started using drugs again, which coincidentally contributed to Mac’s death.
And just this past weekend she pulled out of yet another event at the last minute: the F**k Cancer’s inaugural Barbara Berlanti Heroes Fundraising Gala. Hours later, it was announced that she and Pete had split.
