On Friday, a new preview clip of Aaron Hernandez’s fiancée Shayanna Jenkins Hernandez speaking about his suicide was released, and it’s pretty heartbreaking, as one can imagine. She cries as she tells Dr. Phil that she thought the news of him hanging himself was a “hoax.”

It certainly surprised everyone, as he had just been acquitted of a double murder days ago, and planned to fight a life sentence for another murder conviction.

“I got a call at 5:27am in the morning from some official at Shirley prison, and they informed me...they informed me that indeed Aaron was deceased,” Shayanna said. “And at first I thought it was a hoax. I thought that this was some cruel person - that it was a cruel person playing a trick on me.”

But sadly it was no hoax. The former New England Patriots tight end was pronounced dead at UMass Memorial-Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster about an hour after guards found him unresponsive in his cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. He was just 27-years-old.

“I just know the feedback that I was getting from our last talk had nothing to do with suicidal thoughts,” Shayanna told Dr. Phil. He told the Today show on Friday, “She does not believe he killed himself, surprisingly, because the evidence is pretty overwhelming.”
