Days after Anne Hathaway opened up about her drinking and denied having an alcohol problem, she spoke candidly about one of her massive lifestyle changes — quitting veganism. In a new interview, the actress revealed what made her start eating meat again.
In an interview with Tatler magazine, Anne explained that while shooting Interstellar in Reykjavik, Iceland, she and co-star Matt Damon went for a meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant. After being a vegan for almost a decade at that point, she tried to figure out a way to stick to her dietary ideals without inconveniencing the chef.
“I was the only chick at dinner and I’m the vegan and everyone’s just going with the flow,” she recalled. “So I asked in a quiet and embarrassed voice: ‘Is your fish local?’ And they said: ‘Do you see that fjord outside?’”
Ultimately, Anne decided to try the fish and was pleasantly surprised. “I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting,” she said.

“I just didn’t feel good or healthy on my vegan diet,” she told Harper's Bazaar in November 2018. She said that after eating the fish, she “just felt better.”
Earlier this year, Anne revealed her decision to quit drinking until her son was 18 years old. However, in April 2019, she backtracked and insisted that alcohol itself wasn't her problem. Her problem was actually her horrendous hangovers.
“My last hangover lasted for five days,” she said in an interview with Boston Common. “When I’m at a stage in my life where there is enough space for me to have a hangover, I’ll start drinking again, but that won’t be until my kid is out of the house.”
