
Avril Lavigne Is 'Just Grateful To Be Alive' While Battling Lyme Disease

Avril Lavigne got very candid about her battle with Lyme disease in an exclusive interview with OK! Magazine. The singer gave an update on her health, discussed her two failed marriages to fellow rockstars Deryck Whibley and Chad Kroeger, and revealed how music helped her through. “I’ve gone through a lot,” Avril, 34, told OK! Magazine.

The “Complicated” singer, who rose to fame almost 17 years ago, opened up about her ongoing battle with Lyme disease.

“When something like that happens to you, you’re really forced to look at the simple things in life. I’m just grateful to be alive and that I’ve had music to turn to, because it gives me life,” she said.

Avril was diagnosed after months of suffering. She was on tour in 2014 and started feeling weak. Doctors thought she had dehydration and exhaustion before a specialist traced it to Lyme disease.

“At the moment, I can’t totally be superwoman the way I used to be. It’s one step at a time,” she confessed after being bedridden by the illness for two years.
