According to Esther, she knew early on that Bruce was "special."

“I knew he was special from the time he was a little boy,” she told RadarOnline earlier this month.

“Right now, I am more proud of him for what he’s allowing himself to do,” she admitted. Though Bruce has not yet spoken out about becoming a woman, she said he told her himself that he was planning on the transition.
