RadarOnline reported that Jenner’s camp actually approached ESPN about her receiving the award—rather than the other way around—as part of the deal to do the interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC.

A source said that ESPN “loved the idea” because her “journey to accepting the award will also be featured on her upcoming reality show, I Am Cait,” which would mean more publicity.
