Jessa Duggar gave her son Henry a gift every day leading up to his 3rd birthday and some fans had a problem with it! The Counting On clapped back at one person who suggested giving her child that many presents was “unnecessary.”
Jessa, 27, uploaded a YouTube video on February 8 of her son Henry opening each of his birthday presents. “This year we decided to change things up— Instead of opening all his gifts at once, we decided to start the week before his birthday and give one gift a day so he would have time to appreciate and really enjoy each one,” she shared on Instagram.
“This was so fun, I think we might turn it into a new tradition!” the Counting On star added.
In the YouTube video, she further explained, “We decided a week before Henry’s birthday to give him one gift per day and give him the opportunity to take one gift in and really appreciate it and enjoy it before giving him the next gift. We tried to think outside of the box so none of these gifts came from the kids toy aisle. They’re all educational type things or books.”
The 3-year-old received two books, a pair of binoculars, a trip to a donut shop with his dad Ben Seewald, new pairs of underwear, red bananas, a bird feeder and a squirrel baffle. As a bonus, Henry was excited when it snowed a little bit.
“I don't understand why he needs more than one gift at all,” one person commented on Jessa’s Instagram post. “Even that is unnecessary because he is too young to know it's his birthday without you telling him.”
Jessa admitted, “True, he is young, and he doesn’t quite grasp the ‘birthday’ thing.”
“We chose gifts that the whole family can enjoy— not just him— though he gets the joy of opening and ownership,” she added. “Classic books, a bird feeder, etc. There was one gift not for sharing: new underwear. Ha! We try to keep it practical and educational.”
