As if labor wasn’t already dramatic enough, pregnant Joy-Anna Duggar got a double dose of it when she was told by her midwife that she had to be rushed to the hospital to have an emergency C-section. Read on for the latest.
Monday’s episode of Counting On was loaded with drama surrounding the birth of Joy-Anna’s first child. Despite all her and husband Austin Forsyth’s careful planning to welcome their baby in a home birth, the couple was shocked to learn that their little one was breeched and Joy-Anna had to be rushed to the hospital for an emergency C-section.
Joy-Anna, who gave birth to baby Gideon on February 23, recalled the horror of the moment on the latest episode: “After about 19 hours of labor, the midwife realized that the baby was breech.”
“Before I went into labor, having a C-section was my greatest fear. That was one of the things that I was scared of. I didn't want to have to have a C-section. But by that point I was exhausted…just ready to get the baby here,” she added.

But despite the drama, and after 20 total hours of labor, little Gideon was born, and he now holds the record of the biggest Duggar baby at birth—weighing in at a whopping 10 pounds, three ounces and 22 inches long.
Joy-Anna and Austin were overwhelmed with joy to meet their firstborn. “Austin and I were both crying. It was such a sweet moment,' Joy remembered in the episode. “There's nothing like it in the world,” Austin said.
