Aspiring singers better brush up on their Katy Perry songs! The famous pop star just announced she is the first judge confirmed for the highly-anticipated American Idol reboot!
“SO thrilled @ABCNetwork is bringing back @AmericanIdol, and I’m bringing it back to the MUSIC see you at auditions!” the pop star tweeted next to a photo of her sitting at the judge’s table with the American Idol logo in the top right corner.
Katy’s announcement comes as a surprise, since many thought season one alum Kelly Clarkson would be the first judge announced. Kelly was rumored to be a frontrunner, as she was reportedly clearing her schedule to make time for auditions.

Fans are also still waiting to hear if former host Ryan Seacrest will sign on for the reboot. The longtime host recently joined Live with Kelly as Kelly Ripa’s official co-host, so it may be difficult for Ryan to do both.
Followers were excited to hear the news, with one fan responding, “Congrats, @katyperry! You were fun as a guest judge on the original. We're rooting for you to make Idol 2.0 a success!”
