Destiny Odom is finally opening up about the moment she thought she was going to lose her father Lamar Odom forever. In October 2015, the former NBA star was hospitalized after being found unconscious in a brothel. “It was a school night when I found out,” the 18-year-old revealed in a People/Entertainment Weekly feature. “We all thought that he was, that this was it for him and he was going to pass away. But, life is so crazy.” Miraculously, Lamar recovered the very next day, and Destiny believes she and her brother, Lamar Jr., were the reason.
Destiny confessed that she and her mother, Lamar’s ex Liza Morales, sat and talked with him for 30 minutes that night. “The next morning he was ripping tubes out of his mouth and I don’t really think that’s a coincidence,” Destiny recalled.
“I think he was meant to be here because of me and my brother. It sounds like a cheesy movie, but I think that everything happens for a reason,” she continued.
Frightened for her dad’s future, Destiny and her brother held an intervention for Lamar. “I basically gave him the ultimatum that it was rehab or me not speaking to him anymore," she admitted. "I think that hit him really hard.”

After his kids’ intervention, Lamar entered a rehab center in December 2016. Destiny said she can see a definite change in her dad since he got help. “When your parent is an addict and they get clean it’s like a whole new world,” she explained. “A whole new person, really.”
Added Destiny, “It’s crazy what therapy and rehab can do to a person. He’s just a lot more clear and in the moment and he’s more apologetic. He’s able to see more the pain that he’s caused when he’s clean.”
