After weeks of speculation, the royal palace has confirmed that Meghan Markle will officially be spending Christmas with the royal family at Queen Elizabeth’s private estate in Sandringham, England. The invite is a huge break in tradition for the family, who wouldn’t even let Kate Middleton attend the exclusive festivities when she was engaged to Prince William in 2010!
“You can expect to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, and Ms. Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day,” a Kensington Palace spokesman said in a statement.
The Buckingham Palace added, “The Queen and members of the Royal Family will attend the Morning Service on Christmas Day at Sandringham Church.”
Last year, the Queen and Prince Philip stayed in London for Christmas due to heavy colds, but this year, they’re returning to the Norfolk, England, estate.

The royal family’s Christmas at Sandringham is steeped in tradition. On Christmas Eve, the family attends a black tie dinner. Then on Christmas morning, guests enjoy a traditional English breakfast at the estate before walking to St. Mary Magdalene for Christmas Day service.
Meghan and Harry announced their engagement last month after dating for more than a year. The couple are set to wed in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
