Shay Mitchell revealed her newborn daughter's unique name and got candid about motherhood in a new interview with Vogue. The actress addressed the anxiety she's felt as a new parent and hit out against the mom shaming she received for going to Drake's birthday party shortly after giving birth.
Shay, 32, announced that she had welcomed her first child with boyfriend Matt Babel on October 20. The Pretty Little Liars star revealed how she and her beau settled on their daughter's unique name in her interview with the magazine.
"A close friend of ours was listing off names for her daughter that she had had a year and a half ago. Then she said Atlas and I looked at Matte, and he looked at me, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.' It’s just the perfect name; from that day, we knew it was going to be Atlas. People would ask us, ‘Do you have a name?’ But we were keeping it hidden. I’m sorry to everybody that I lied to!” she said.
The TV star received major backlash for attending Drake's birthday party shortly after giving birth, and she was caught off guard by the mom shaming.

"It concerns me that people are so quick to pass judgment on others, especially without knowing any facts, and behind the protection of the screen. My daughter had been born for several weeks, and when Matte and I chose to take our night out, which was an hour and a half, it surprised me that people chose to be so reactive and aggressive and assume the absolute worst about us — and more so me," she admitted.
She continued, "There are real issues in the world, and I wish people would stop jumping to extreme conclusions about things that aren’t their business, but Matte and I just choose to ignore it because we couldn’t be happier right now. For me, I’m going to do exactly what I feel is right for my family."
Shay is learning the ropes of motherhood with the help of her close pals. "It’s been wonderful because my best friend who lives in Vancouver, she had her daughter last May, and I’ve watched her raise her. So now to have our kids be close in age is incredible. It’s funny because all my friends have had little girls. When I found out that we were having ours, I was just super excited because we are a close group of families, and hopefully our daughters will be another little close group of friends as well, growing up," she gushed.
