Tim McGraw has come a long way, thanks to some tough love from his wife Faith Hill. In the country crooner’s new memoir, Grit & Grace: Train The Mind, Train The Body, Own Your Life, he, 52, revealed that Faith, 52, threatened him with an ultimatum over ten years ago. Since, the “Highway Don’t Care” singer has sobered up and greatly improved his health.
In his new book, Tim wrote about how at his lowest point, he was over 40 pounds overweight, and grieving the sudden death of his father, his stepfather, and high school mentor. He began using liquor as a “crutch.” “I drank more to dull the discomfort,” he said about the “darkest period” of his life.
He also recalled spending plenty of time partying as his career took off. Although Tim was enjoying the success his career brought him, he struggled balancing that lifestyle with his family.
Faith sat him down and gave him a strict ultimatum, which shook him to the core. “Getting real like only she can do, Faith told me, ‘Partying or family, take your pick,’” he said. Tim felt there was “no question” about his choice, and became sober not long after their conversation. The couple celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary on October 6.

Tim also recently opened up about his major weight loss, which came after his daughter Gracie said he looked “big on the screen” in his Four Christmases appearance. He weighed 215 pounds at the time and took her observation to heart.
“I got out of it for a while,” he confessed. “I was in the prime of my career, and I wasn’t capitalizing on it.” The “Just to See You Smile” singer cut out alcohol, burgers, and “truck stop foods." He also started working out, which he now considers his “meditation.” Over 10 years later, Tim lost 40 pounds.
Since his major transformation, the “Humble and Kind” singer is teaching his fans how to do the same to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Grit & Grace: Train The Mind, Train The Body, Own Your Life is available for purchase on November 5.
