See Photos Of Zac Efron As A Child—And He Wasn’t Always A Hunk!

Zac Efron may be known for his famous abs—and, of course, acting skills!—but he wasn’t always a Hollywood hunk! Click through to see photos from the 27-year-old's childhood.

Zachary David Alexander Efron grew up in Arroyo Grande, Calif. which is a small seaside town 22 miles south of San Luis Obispo.

Before he was in High School Musical, he was, of course, in middle school!

Here he is showing off his drama skills at an early age in a production of Peter Pan.

The instructor encouraged him to audition for roles at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, where it truly began for Zac.

He was always a character! According to his pal, when he was 14-years-old, Zac let a fellow theatre student at the California State Summer School for the Arts braid his hair.

His friend said he left the braids in “for a long time,” and the end result was definitely different than his silky, straight hair!

"When we eventually took the braids out his hair was all greasy and crimped,” his friend Lana said.

To Hollywood he went! While attending Arroyo Grande High School, Zac made regular visits to Los Angeles to audition.

He landed his first major role in 2002 on the television show Firefly and several other guest appearances in the years after.

But it wasn’t until 2005 when he had his breakthrough moment on High School Musical.

That’s when the hunk started dating his now ex-Vanessa Hudgens. He’s since moved onto model Sami Miro.
