We've all watched Clueless and felt envy when Cher easily picks out her outfit for the day with the help of a sartorial machine. Clothes didn't combust out of her closet, and she didn't once blurt out the phrase that lives in every girl's worst nightmare—"I have nothing to wear!" That moment is when you'll realize that, 1: You wish you had access to that technology and 2: Why isn't there a formula for picking out an outfit?

Nicky Hilton just solved at least one of your problems. The style icon has authored a book, 365 Style, that's based off of a style formula that she conceptualized with her friends. The formula breaks down what you actually need in your closet, the occasions you dress for, and the accessories you can't live without. It's actually genius. We caught up with Nicky Hilton (who walked into our offices wearing the most adorable Urban Outfitters dress, might we add!) and got the lowdown on her new book, the celebs she'd take on a shopping trip, and even a bit about the wedding dress she'll walk down the aisle in. Check it out.

OK! Magazine: Tell us a little bit about the 365 formula in your new book.

Nicky Hilton: The 365 formula was created to help simplify your wardrobe and make your closet a little more tame. The '3' represents the most common occasions you dress for. So my three are day casual, business, meetings, business attire, and the third would be special events, evening, going out. The '6' is clothing staples, and then the '5' is accessories.

OK!: You talk a lot about finding yourself in fashion in your new book. So what does your style say about you right now?

NH: I think feminine. I’m wearing lots of florals, dresses, bows. Sweet and feminine.

OK!: Do you think you were making a conscious effort as a little girl to express yourself in fashion?

NH: I grew up in New York City, and I went to a very strict all girls Catholic private school on the Upper East Side with very strict uniforms—no jewelry, no nail polish, no anything. The weekends were my time to shine. Maybe it’s being so suppressed growing up that you want to express yourself.

OK!: What were some of your favorite childhood outfits?

NH: I was obsessed with Contempo Casuals and Judy's and those types of stores. I loved dressing up.

OK!: In your book you talk about fashion mood boards. Why is it important for a girl to have one?

NH: I think it’s important for girls who are having trouble determining their sense of style. Our society is so celebrity obsessed. Everyone is trying to dress like their favorite celebrity. I just think that’s lame, and I’m really encouraging girls in this book to find their own sense of style. Be unique. If you walk down the street, it’s a bunch of Rihanna and Cara Delevingne clones, and they’re just copying. I understand if you like a celebrity’s style but maybe just take one element from their look instead of copying it from head-to-toe. I think it’s important to have a signature thing that’s unique to you, like Karl Lagerfeld has his fingerless gloves. Anna Wintour has her signature bob and shades.

OK!: What’s on your mood board?

NH: Lace. I love Peter Pan collars. I just designed a collection incorporating a lot of them. I love the mini backpack trend. I think that’s really cute and practical. And Cats. I love cats. They’re forever on my mood board.

OK!: What was a source of inspiration growing up?

NH: Growing up, I was obsessed with the 90s supermodels. Kate, Naomi, Linda. I was always buying the fashion magazines and looking to see what they were wearing.

OK!: So you were obsessed with 90s models. Do you have someone right now that you’re looking towards?

NH: I love Jackie O’s sense of style. I think she was so classy and elegant and cool at the same time—which is hard to pull off all of those adjectives.

OK!: Is there an item in your closet that you’re really attached to right now?

NH: I’m really loving my boyfriend jean shorts from J Brand. I’ve been wearing them all summer. I can wear them to the beach. If I want to dress them up, throw a blazer on top and pair it with heels. I’ve been getting a lot of use out of them.

OK!: Do you ever ask anyone for advice when dressing?

NH: I think with the camera phone you can instantly take a picture. Which shoes are better, which color looks better?

OK!: Do you ask your friends?

NH: We definitely all do it with each other. The beauty of the iPhone.

OK!: You talk about your mom a lot in your book. What’s one thing you learned from her?

NH: My mom likes to say 'Less is More.' She’s also taught me the importance of dressing your age. You never want to look too matronly or like you’re trying to look like a teenager. I think it’s important to keep that in mind.

OK!: You’ve met a lot of fashionable people. If you could pick five people from now or the past to go shopping with you, who would you pick?

NH: Jackie O. She’d have to come! Eloise. Beyonce. She could come, too! Sarah Jessica Parker. Anna Wintour.

OK!: What is the last thing you bought?

NH: This dress at Urban Outfitters. I got so many cute dresses from Urban for my trip to Ibiza.

OK!: Are you excited for NYFW?

NH: I love NYFW because it’s sort of a high school reunion with all my friends. All my fashion friends or any editors, everyone from Europe. Everyone comes in for it.

OK!: Are there any shows you really want to see this year?

NH: I always like Alice + Olivia. She’s a dear friend of mine. I love her clothing. I wear it all the time. Jeremy Scott is always a really fun show. He always has outrageous, crazy, fun designs. Diane von Furstenberg is always a beautiful show.

OK!: Congrats on your engagement. What type of bridal gown should we expect?

NH: I’m very classic and old fashion when it comes to that. I think you’ll see that in my wedding dress as well.
