Orange Is the New Black Star Jackie Cruz’s New York Fashion Week Diary: Nicole Miller and Carmen Marc Valvo
Orange Is the New Black is one of the hottest new TV shows in recent memory, which is why OKMagazine.com is so excited to have star Jackie Cruz as our special correspondent from New York Fashion Week! She’s exclusively sharing her diary with OKMagazine.com, so stay tuned for every show, party, and outfit!
For day four of New York Fashion Week, Jackie Cruz went to Carmen Marc Valvo and Nicole Miller at Lincoln Center. "I have to say, day four of NYFW was a busy one but a blessed one. Nothing was like yesterday so far, what an amazing day! I had the pleasure to start my morning at Carmen Marc Valvo's show."
Check Jackie out with Carmen himself, above! "I wore an electric blue piece designed by him with an off gold head piece designed by my make up artist, Alyne Halvajian, who designed it right before we left to Lincoln Center. The head piece gave it the warrior touch, which soon after seeing the show it went right with Carmen's vision."
"Once we walked in I bumped into my friend Carmen Marc Valvo and wished him luck with the collection before the show. I was so excited to be part of his big day," Jackie says. "Right after I was escorted to my seat where I sat with my Latina sister and OITNB cast member, Selenis Leyva. I was so excited to see her and share this moment with her as it was Selenis' first NYFW show ever."
"Carmen's show was impeccable. His couture pieces are for women with curves. He presented women to be warriors with his armor-looking gowns with chain-link accents and metal beads which give it that strong edge." Jackie ran into loads of celebrities, including Katie Couric, Vanessa Williams, and Sherri Shepherd. She says meeting Sherri was inspirational and she felt humble to have spent time with her. Meeting her was the highlight of her day!
"And it was striking to see Daisy Fuentes, Vanessa Williams, Sherri Shepherd and Katie Couric there supporting him. It was exciting for me to be there amongst these iconic women supporting the same designer and friend."

"Being at Carmen's show was so surreal. I was thankful to be there and see all these mega stars recognize me and Orange. I cant want to share with my OITNB family how all of them are fans of Orange."
"After Carmen's show it was time for some lunch and then head home to get ready for the night ahead of me. I was personally invited by Nicole Miller to sit at her show and have dinner with her after to celebrate," Jackie says. At Nicole Miller, Jackie was joined by her stylist Luiza Solano and model boyfriend Fransico Escobar.
"When I heard about the invite I was beyond thrilled," says Jackie. At the show, she had the pleasure to interview her friend Nicole Miller about the collection before the fashion show started. "Nicole has dressed me before and we have spoken about how I would like her new collection due to my vintage and edgy style. And she was right, I did."
Nicole told Jackie, "Oh Jackie, I know you're going to love this season as its dark, edgy, full of leather, and patterns, and it has that rocker flair you love." And indeed, Jackie loved all the textural touches. "Wow, Nicole's show was breath taking with her modern urban warrior theme and designs. I loved the gold Victorian patterns with leather, peacock feathers, colorful fur and warm tones."
"Nicole told me she was inspired by strong, iconic women who are warriors to her. I loved how both shows on day four represented 'Girl Power and Strong Women.'" After Nicole's show, Jackie met up with her OITNB co-star Diane Guerrero and had a pow-wow with fashion PR guru, Kelly Cutrone for a quick chat the Lincoln center tents. Soon after, Jackie and her boyfriend Francisco headed to a private dinner hosted by Nicole Miller to celebrate her NYFW show. At this dinner, Jackie had the pleasure to meet Nick Jonas and Miss Universe!
