Parks and Recreation - Season 6

We love Rashida Jones’ easy, beautiful style on Parks & Recreation, so we were thrilled when the show’s hair department head hair stylist Terrie Velazquez Owen offered up styling tips to create a similar, breezy look.

“I've recently fallen in love with hair oils,” says Terrie.”No, not the unwanted kind, but amazing organic hair oils made by Balanced Guru. I know it seems counter intuitive to put hair oil on fine limp hair but it really works miracles on hair health, shine and manageability.”

To create Rashida’s light, wavy look, Terrie works on her strands when they’ve air dried naturally.

“We prefer this to pulling on wet hair with a brush and blow drying. Years of the blow dryer really wreaks havoc on one's hair, so on Rashida's delicate and fine hair I avoid that step. I then use Balanced Guru's No Frizz Organic Sesame & Lemongrass Balancing Oil, a few drops on just the ends, then comb through.”

To style, Terrie wraps her hair around extra-large heated rollers, allowing them to set for 10 minutes or longer if Rashida is spending some time in the makeup chair.

“Afterwards, I take the hot rollers out and brush through with a large soft natural brush,” says the hair stylist. “I prefer Mason Pearson brushes, the children's ones are the softest. Rashida has lush, shiny curls with minimal effort. Courtesy of Balanced Guru!”
