OK! Magazine: So tell us about the inspiration behind the collection?
Christian Siriano: It was really inspired by a trip I took. I went to Isla Mujeres, which is a small island in Mexico. I just loved being there. I felt so good about myself. I love the people. I love going to the market and watching these women create their own handmade textiles with raffias and woven fabrics. You are going to see a lot of handmade textiles and a lot of woven raffia, French-knot techniques. I love that the women there really celebrate themselves. I’m not the designer that’s doing oversized, slouchy, edgy, and cool. It’s about dressing more of a real body and people that want to play with color and shape.

OK!: Since this collection is about celebrating a women, who would you want to see in this collection?
CS: I don’t think it is anyone specific. I love that all the pieces in the collection can be worn different ways. You can take a cool raffia jacket and pair it with a slim pant and that girl can be a little bit edgier and cool. You could take something really beautiful—a fluted cape piece—and I think that woman is maybe a little bit more daring. I also love that this collection is for a lot of different cultures. You can live in different countries, and we sell to a lot of different international retailers.
OK!: So it’s very versatile?
CS: It is. It wasn’t like it was very cookie-cutter. I think there are shapes for a lot of different sizes, different body types—because that is who my customer is. I try to design for her each season.
OK!: Those shoes are amazing.
CS: Aren’t they cool? There’s a lot of color in the shoes, a lot of raffia, and a lot of play with fabrics. But it’s a really sexy heel, super streamline, and cool.
