Terrified Joy-Anna Duggar Learns She Needs Emergency C-Section In ‘Counting On’ Sneak Peek
Joy-Anna Duggar overcame her “greatest fear” in order to welcome her baby boy, Gideon Martyn Forsyth.
In a sneak peek of the upcoming season of Counting On, the then-pregnant Joy discusses her anxiety about delivering her baby and her general nerves about becoming a new mom.
“As we get closer to the birth I think there’s a lot of emotions, somewhat nervous. A little scared,” she says.
As OK! readers know, the delivery of the reality star’s first child did not go quite as planned. She had to undergo an emergency C-section after finding out her firstborn was breech (meaning the baby was positioned head-up, so his feet were pointed toward the birth canal).
“Seeing my wife in pain, that was probably about the hardest,” her husband Austin Forsyth says through tears in the clip.
The video then shows Joy mid-labor saying, “Somebody help me breathe.”
“Having a C-section is my greatest fear,” Joy explains in the preview clip after she is shown being wheeled into an operating room.
Joy planned on having a home birth. However, after Joy was in labor for nearly 24 hours without any real progress the nervous parents-to-be informed their family that Joy was being transported to the hospital.

Once there, the doctors determined that baby Gideon was breech and would have to be delivered by C-section.
Counting On returns Monday, July 30 on TLC.
