CoverGirl Talia Dies At 13 After Brave Six Year Battle With Cancer
Talia Joy Castellano has died, age 13.
Talia won the hearts of millions with her amazing attitude, sunny disposition and strength of character throughout her fierce, six year long battle with cancer.
The teen finally succumbed Tuesday and a message was posted on the Florida teen’s Facebook page announcing the sad news.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22am. Please lift her beautiful soul, her beautiful light to heaven,” it reads.
“I met a very special girl, and today we lost her. Sending my heart to Talia’s family. I’m so sad,” Ellen tweeted.
The talk show host previously praised Talia as “an inspiration” telling her during an interview last year, “You really are quite something.
“There’s a depth to your soul that is not a 13-year-old soul.
“You’re an old soul and you are very special and amazing, and I’m so honored that you wanted to meet me and that I got to meet you.”
Talia was just seven years old when she was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma cancer, a tumor that develops from nerve tissue in infants and children, and she fought a sterling battle against the disease throughout her too short life.
There was hope initially, as after going a grueling regime of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation she was cancer-free for one year, but in September 2008 it was discovered the cancer had spread to a small lymph node near her heart.
Last year Talia announced she had neuroblastoma and leukemia at the same time and she was given an estimated twelve months to live.
Doctors suggested Talia undergo a bone marrow transplant as a means to extend her life but the brave little girl decided against undergoing yet another painful surgery, choosing instead to try and enjoy her remaining time on earth.
“I’ve gotten so many benefits from [cancer],” she explained in one of her videos.
“Having a YouTube channel, [inspiring] people and having people look up to me . . . the journey of having cancer was amazing. But every journey has an end.”
Rest in peace Talia.
