Is Meghan Markle to thank for Prince Harry’s recent revelations? According to one royal insider, yes!
A source told Closer magazine that the prince’s new honest approach to mental health is due to his relationship with the American actress, who has encouraged the royal to share his story.
“He comes from such a stiff-upper-lip culture, but Meghan helped him open up,” the source explained. “She has that American attitude of saying, ‘Let’s talk about our feelings.’”
Last week, Harry spoke with The Telegraph’s Bryony Gordon about his emotional struggle following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and he was shockingly open about how broken his world had once been.
“I can safely say that losing my mom at the age of 12 and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years has had quite a serious effect on not only my personal life but also my work as well,” he shared on Bryony’s Mad World podcast.
Harry then admitted to seeing a therapist “more than a couple of times” at the urging of his brother, Prince William.
And according to the royal insider, it was Meghan who then pushed Harry to be so honest about his need to get help.
“Meghan encouraged Harry to see that, by speaking publicly about his difficult experience, he would really help others, and how being honest might even be a relief,” the insider said.
Harry’s revelations come at a time when his brother Will and sister-in-law Kate Middleton have been open about their own struggles with mental wellbeing. The royal trio has been promoting their mental health charity Head’s Together, which was this weekend’s Virgin London Marathon’s Charity of the Year.
Luckily for the family, Meghan seems to share their same passion for mental wellness, which appears to have given Meg an “in” with royal crew. The actress is reportedly set to be Harry’s date to Pippa Middleton’s wedding in May, as she’s already requested time off from her show Suits to attend!
