Angelina Jolie's exciting engagement to Brad Pitt isn't stopping her from completing her duties as the newly appointed Special Envoy of UNHCR High Commissioner Antonio Guterres.
The actress was spotted out on her first field assignment since being named Special Envoy in Berrancabermeja, Ecuador, yesterday, where she met with residents of a village located on the banks of the San Miguel border.
The location of their village makes the residents vulnerable to the Colombian conflict and therefore, void of many rights. Angelina was there to assess the current situation for refugees, as well as check in on an agricultural project being supported by UNHCR.
Angie met with a man named Plinio, who is in charge of growing beans as part of the project, which hopes to encourage self sufficiency and improve nutrtion in the nation.
In her new role, which she took on after being a Goodwill Ambassador for over a decade, Angelina “is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Guterres at the diplomatic level, engaging with relevant interlocutors on global displacement issues,” UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told reporters in Geneva on April 17.
