Getting into character can be difficult for a number of reasons, but Johnny Depp is discussing one we do not often hear about!
The actor told Celebuzz that the extra-long fingernails he wore for his Dark Shadows character, Barnabas Collins, made some usually simple tasks more difficult.
"In every film that I've been lucky enough to do with Tim [Burton], there's always some form of torture," Johnny joked. "The nails were Tim's idea. "I had a troop of people who would help me go to the bathroom, he laughed. "They had to have treatment afterward — but they're okay now."
Dark Shadows is based on the nighttime soap of the same name, which ran from 1966 to 1971. Johnny's character Barnabas is a vampire who is trying to adjust to life after being freed from his tomb, where he has been buried alive since the 18th century.
The film, which also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter and Chloë Grace Moretz, opens on May 11.
