Rachael Ray and hubby John Cusimano’s relationship has gone to the dogs.
“Animals teach you how to be better humans,” the bubbly TV host, 45, tells me Friday during Animal League America’s Celebrity Gala, where she is honored for her life-saving work through Rachael’s Rescue, held at Waldorf Astoria in NYC. “They teach you empathy, courage, loyalty…”
Adds John, “We also have a lot less sleeping room on the bed, because there’s a 65 lb. pitbull splayed out between the two of us.”
“We’re sort of like parentheses,” Rachael says.
He continues, “It’s clearly her bed, her bedroom, we’re just occasionally invited.”
Rachael adds, “I think having an animal in your life makes you a better human.”
What makes the couple, who got married in 2005, perfect together?
“We make sense,” says Rachael, whose cookbook, Week In A Day, is out now. “We fit.”
John continues, “We’re similar personality-wise. We’re both emotional, angry, forgiving, little Sicilian people. (both laughs)”
