Rob Lowe looks pretty darn good shirtless at 47! The actor doesn’t seem to age and takes his toned torso and tanned skin to the cover of Vanity Fair! Rob opens up about his Brat Pack days, during which he considered Charlie Sheen and Tom Cruise among his peers and divulges on his new revealing book, Stories I Only Tell My Friends: An Autobiography in the mag’s May issue.
Rob shared that he and current public obsession Charlie, 45, partied together in the ’80s and were also quite competitive.
“We competed to see who could play harder, then show up for work and still kick ass,” Rob tells Vanity Fair of making Masquerade in 1987 while Charlie filmed Wall Street. “The verdict: Charlie by a nose.”
So what was Charlie like in his heyday?
“One-of-a-kind,” he writes in an excerpt from the book shared with Vanity Fair. “A Polo preppy clotheshorse in a world of O.P. shorts and surf T-shirts… a wonderful mix of nerd … and rebel.”
Rob and Charlie grew up together as neighbors in L.A. but were living different lives.
“At my house we are still saving money by not buying desserts,” Rob writes. “At Charlie’s house, it’s never-ending Häagen-Dazs, brand-new BMWs, a lagoon pool with underwater tunnels, and a lit, professional-grade basketball half-court.”
Rob met Tom Cruise during auditions for ’80s classic The Outsiders, when the was visiting the Sheen home.
“Open, friendly, funny, and has an almost robotic, bloodless focus and an intensity that I’ve never encountered before,” Rob shares of Tom.
The proud dad of two songs, who has been married to wife Sheryl Berkoff for 20 years, shares he has no regrets when it comes to his career.
“The Brat Pack is timeless… We should all be so lucky in our lives to create things that we’re still talking about 25 years later,” he says.
