The 2013 Writers Guild Awards brought out Hollywood’s best and brightest to honor and support the talented wordsmiths who keep us laughing, crying and thoroughly entertained while at the movies or kickin’ it at home in front of the TV. And an awards show just wouldn’t be an awards show in Tinseltown without a a gifting suite behind the scenes doling out fab goodies for industry elite. But at the Backstage Creations Celebrity Retreat, the stars were both giving and receiving, as several non-profit organizations were on hand to spread the word about all of their do-goodings.
Particularly relevant given the untimely death of troubled country star Mindy McCreedy is iFred, the International Foundation for Research and Education on Depression, which strives to spread awareness about depression and encourage those suffering to seek help. Armed with dozens of cheery sunflowers to draw attention to the cause, iFred asked celebs to write notes of inspiration and their response was incredibly touching.
“There's always hope and there's always love,” wrote Silver Linings Playbook star Jacki Weaver. “Bravery will win out!” Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain wants everyone to know how important they are to others. “You give so many love and sunshine,” she noted. And Glee’s Jane Lynch summed it up perfectly by writing, “It's treatable. Get help. We love you.”
Interior Designer Rachel Hulan created a warm and inviting space within the suite for guests to relax, while showing off some of the incredible furniture collected by Furnishing Hope, a non-profit that works to create fully furnished and comforting spaces for wounded military service men and women and their families. Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner was so impressed with the organization he offered to donate some set pieces from his uber-successful AMC series to the cause. Hey, Don Draper doesn't really need that couch, right?
Of course there was also plenty of gifting and guests in attendance had the opportunity to scoop up yummy snacks courtesy of Sabra and Simply Divine Brownies, cocktails created by Purity Vodka, home goods from kate spade new york, beauty products from Infinite Lash and Essentious, a haircare line formulated with natural ingredients, and lots of other fun finds.
